The Tennessean Golf Club
Paris in the spring is quite lovely especially if you re teeing it up at the The Tennessean a heavily forested layout in Paris Tennessee 100 miles west of Nashville near the Kentucky border It was the perfect job for architect Keith Foster who lives in Paris Kentucky We re not sure if Foster speaks French or not but his design oozes joie de vivre in the form of severely undulating fairways and greens rock outcroppings chasms and creeks This course has more natural defenses than usually are found in one place imposing knolls winding creeks rock ledges deep gulches steep walled valleys and sharp elevation changes and a lot of big trees Towering pines and old growth hardwoods frame the heavily undulating fairways The land was untouched for so long an abandoned moonshine still was discovered during course construction The course follows the natural contours of the land and Foster has aggressively contoured greens dug cavernous bunkers and slotted tees into the hillsides The course was ranked No 20 on the list of 50 best courses under 50
