Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail - Grand National
This facility is just one of the eight facilities that make up the Robert Trent Jones Trail through Alabama This facility offers two outstanding eighteen hole courses and an eighteen hole par 3 course Fifteen years after its debut the Lake Course ranked 70th on the 2006 GOLF Magazine Top 100 Courses You Can Play list It s a formidable challenge thanks to its enormous undulating greens sprawling bunkers and the 12 holes that tangle with 600 acre Lake Saugahatchee The risk reward par 5 12th that boomerangs to the left and the all carry par 3 15th that plays to an island green are the boldest reminders of how the course got its name Hit it crooked and you re in for a serious soaking The greens on the Links Course are also large and sloping and there are several marsh areas that must be hit over Even though the course has fairly open fairways they are still defined by trees and a high underbrush on both sides The 18th hole is a 471 yard par 4 monster highlighted by a boulder bulkhead green located above a cove The 345 yard par 4 eighth hole is also tough requiring an accurately placed tee shot to a bend in the dogleg right fairway which turns 90 degree The approach shot is over water to a green that has water protecting the back and left sides Don t let the short distance of this hole fool you The Short Course is an executive layout but do not mistake it for a pitch and putt Locals consider it the prettiest of the three The greens are contoured but not as undulating as the Lake and Links courses
