Pacific Golf & Country Club
This club has three nine hole courses that are played in three eighteen hole combinations The courses are named after the three British courses where Gary Player won his three British Open Championships These links style courses were built in a canyon among the San Clemente hills The courses also feature heavy brush on the sides of the fairways but no trees There are many sand bunkers incorporated into the course design but the natural terrain which you must cross on many occasions in front of the tees and greens proves to be a greater hazard than the sand Due to the canyon and hills all the holes either play uphill or downhill Most of the tees and greens are elevated and many blind approach shots are required Though the course is not extremely long due to uphill shots and the wind you will often find the need to play one to three clubs longer than normal A good example of this is hole 8 on the Carnoustie Course a 139 yard par 3 requiring a tee shot over water Your tee shot on this hole is all carry to clear the rock wall dividing the water and the green plus your shot is directly into the wind Since there is strategy required in placing your shots this is a course that you need to play more than once in order to score well One of the outstanding holes is 9 on the Muirfield Course This is a 574 yard par 5 which requires a blind tee shot to a downhill slope then a carefully placed second shot to position yourself in front of a stream that flows in front of the green
